Why can’t my child read and write
like other children??? At the Reading and Writing Institute we are asked that question every day! The truth of the matter is that virtually EVERYONE with average intelligence can learn to read and write. Then why is it that many people don’t gain these critical skills??? And that dear reader is exactly why you are reading this website. Look at the big picture, does everyone look exactly the same? Does everyone act the same way? Certainly not, the fact is that human beings are different from each other so, it should come as no surprise that we all learn in different ways and, more importantly there are many different reasons why some of us do not learn. It is only by unraveling the diverse nature of how each individual human being learns and what is keeping them from learning that we can provide an accurate answer to the question “Why can’t my child learn to read and write like other children”?. And that dear reader is why the Reading and Writing Institute was founded. It is an extremely difficult situation when a family has to come to grips with the possibility that someone in that family may have a “Learning Disability” that is keeping that person from reaching their full potential.

The good news is that in the case of Dyslexia and Dysgraphia although they are considered to be the largest category of learning disabilities they are not really disabilities at all. The truth of the matter is that the reason that Dyslexic and Dysgraphic individuals struggle is because the system that is being used to try and teach them to read and write is not appropriate for them. So, in reality Dyslexia and Dysgraphia are as much “Teaching Disabilities" as anything else. To learn more about Dyslexia and Dysgrapha please click the links below:
